YOU ARE HERE – CONNECTING WITH THE CONTENT
Here is online portal for locals who want to see, hear and consume a broad spectrum of content via a host of sources. For the project to flourish, we want you to contribute links, stories and commentary that matter to you and our larger community. You are Here.
How can I contribute a link?
If you find a story that resonates with you – serious, amusing, frightening or enlightening – chances are someone else might enjoy it too. Please use the "Submit Link" bookmarklet found at the top of all pages on our sites.
Keep the content timely. Given the speed of churn on the internet, old news can be rendered thus in a matter of hours. With this in mind, do a quick check on the site to make sure your item hasn’t already been posted (or something similar from a different source). If this is the case and your article offers a different perspective, post your piece in the comments section of the original post to help broaden the conversation.
Be sure to include your submission in the category it best suits, and tag it accordingly. Tagging an article about Hamilton Police Services’ use of cavalry in Hess Village, for example, would be placed in “Local, ” and tagged with “Hamilton,” “Police” and “Hess Village.” Think of tagging like this: If someone were to ask you three words that would best situate your story, what would they be? If you’re unsure, think of the “Who” involved, “What” the focus of the story is, and “Where” it took place. Tagging helps us link up similar stories that may be of interest to readers.
Material is often reprinted material from other sources, sometimes several days after it originally ran, and linking to the original is always preferred, for reasons of accuracy as well as freshness. Syndicators don't always run clarifications/corrections.
COMMENTS POLICY
Reader comments are an important part of any site, and often as
enjoyable as the article they're attached to. That said, comments and
discussion should aim to be as interesting and intelligent as
possible. With that in mind, some ground rules:
Be Brief but Respectful
Keep comments short, to the point and on topic, and explain your point of view as thoughtfully as possible. Avoid offhand cruelty or being reactionary or casually dismissive (e.g. "You're a moron."; "This is the stupidest pile of crap.", "Fail") Lazy but positive comments (e.g. “This is amazing," "So great"; "Love this!") are admittedly not much better but may be judged less harshly.
Don't Make it Personal, Don’t Take it Personally
Personal, defamatory attacks simply degrade the discussion. Critique the argument, not the person. Consider whether you can make your point without the use of profanity.
We reserve the right to remove comments and block users but will do so only as a last resort, where comments are abusive, off-topic, use excessive foul language, or include personal attacks. Ignore trolls if you can. We believe that that our visitors care about the local community and, like us, have a hunger for new ideas and mature debate. By improving the quality of our comments, we can make this a better experience for everyone involved.
I still have questions. Who should I contact?
Send all questions to info@heremag.ca. We will try to respond promptly.
